In order to break this world record, I set my sites on climbing
five-to-six days per week in our local Santa Ynez Mountains.
Old San Marcos Road
7-10% grade for 3.2 miles)
(vertical feet 2600 feet from
grade for an additional
alpine climbing within
(vertical feet 1400 - average
and Painted Cave Road
my house - average 9-18%
2.8 miles) provide me with
2 miles from my house.

Santa Barbara's longest mountain climb - Gibraltar Road -
stretches from 775 feet of elevation (at the corner of Mountain
Drive) up to 3975 feet at La Cumbre Peak (3189 feet of climbing
- average 7.5% grade, with Flores Flat section average 11-
14% in 8.3 miles).

With the assistance of my riding partner I calculated
vertical feet climbs according to US Geological Charts, and
began my rides at the end of January. I will chronicle some of
my information as I progress. Asterisk (*) weeks are travel weeks
(less than five days of climbing).
